I now own a skip hire company in Birmingham, when I left college I didn't have a clue at what I wanted to do for a career, I had worked at weekends throughout my college years as a telesales person for a company that hired portable toilets for functions or building sites.
I quite liked speaking to the wide variety of people each day and with my management qualifications I decided to see if I could start up my own company working from home, as the toilet hire company I worked for didn't actually own any toilets but they were representing the toilet hire companies, making sales and claiming commission on the toilets that they hired out.
To begin with I did a lot of research into skip hire and found that there was a need for skip hire in Birmingham, as large as Birmingham is there were not many skip hire companies in Birmingham. I researched the amount of rubbish that was disposed of daily at the local recycling centre, and contacted Birmingham council to find out their guidelines on waste disposal and recycling, they sent me a leaflet in the post detailing all the do's and don't regarding disposing of rubbish and waste disposal in Birmingham.
After much deliberation I decided to call my company a name that said exactly what I did, Skip Hire in Birmingham, that way no-one would ever mistake what my company did. It took me a while to get a few skip hire companies on board and once they had all agreed to my commission prices I created my website, printed my flyers and finally placed a small advert in the local newspapers, within only a few days the telephone started ringing and I haven't looked back since.
